Lake Mead & the Hoover Dam

Two weekends ago Joseph and I have taken a day trip to the Lake Mead, 30 minutes from Las Vegas, and then we have visited the World famous Hoover Dam. Lake Mead is located in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area and, like all the other national parks in USA, it has a entry fee, if you are planning a long trip, like a coast to coast passing across the parks, my advice is to buy one of the passes (weekly, monthly, seasonal and so on). After we had bought the essential supplies we went to Boulder Beach, beach accessible with the car, the road is a little dirt so if you don't have a car adapt for the dirt road you can park your car in one of the parking lot before the dirt part. Not far from the beach there is the Las Vegas Marina where you can rent boats and jet skis. After we relaxed and refreshed for a couple of hours we have decided to visit the Hoover Dam, 15 miles from Boulder Beach and 35 miles from Las Vegas. Before to arrive at the Hoover Dam we had a walk on the Mike O'Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, 275 meters tall and 579 long, where you can enjoy a breath taking view. Last but not least we have visited and walk on the Hoover Dam: IT IS COLOSSAL! After sunset it is forbidden to access to the Dam so plan your visit early enough.

Due weekend fa io e Joseph abbiamo fatto una piccola gita presso il lago Mead, a 30 minuti dal centro di Las Vegas, e in seguito abbiamo visitato la famosa diga di Hoover. Lake Mead fa parte del Lake Mead National Recreation Area e come tutti i parchi nazionali in America hanno una fee d'ingresso, se avete in mente di fare il classico "coast to coast" passando per i numerosi parchi vi consiglio di comprare uno dei numerosi pass (settimanali, mensili, annuali e così via). Dopo esserci riforniti delle provviste necessarie ci siamo diretti verso Boulder Beach, spiaggia direttamente accessibile in macchina, il suolo è abbastanza irregolare quindi se possedete una macchina non adatta allo sterrato potete sempre parcheggiarla prima dello sterrato dove è presente un parcheggio. Non lontano da Boulder Beach è presente Lake Mead Marina dove potete noleggiare barche o moto d'acqua. Dopo esserci rilassati (e rinfrescati) per un paio d'ore abbiamo deciso di visitare la famosa diga di Hoover, 15 miglia da Boulder Beach e 35 miglia da Las Vegas. Prima di arrivare alla diga abbiamo camminato e goduto della vista dal Mike O'Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, alto 275 metri e lungo 579. Dulcis in fundo abbiamo raggiunto la diga e fatto una passeggiata: È MASTODONTICA. Al tramonto la diga viene sgomberata quindi pianificate la vostra visita prima del tramonto.

La Bella Napoli Pizzeria

Happy Friday everyone! Sometimes I'm a living Italian Stereotype and I need to go out and have a good pizza and some classic Italian drinks: mainly Spritz and Negroni. As you can imagine in America is not impossible but also not easy. In Las Vegas, thank to the massive number of Italian immigrants here (two days ago an Italian immigrant family stopped me at Starbucks) I have a pretty good selection. Last Friday we have visited a new spot not so far from the Strip: La Bella Napoli Pizzeria at Town Square. The restaurant is really bright and it looks like an original Pizzeria in Italy. The waiters are really well trained on the menu and really kind (some of them speak Italian) and the owner/manager is really attentive to the customers. Last but not least the food: for appetizer we ordered the Tortellini (exactly like my nonna's) and then we shared a flawless pizza, they use an authentic Italian, bell shaped wood fired oven shipped straight from Naples. To try!

Buon venerdì a tutti! Da buon stereotipo Italiano vivente certe volte ho voglia di uscire per una pizza e un paio di classici drink Italiani: Spritz e Negroni principalmente, ovviamente in America non è impossibile ma non è nemmeno facilissimo. A Las Vegas anche grazie al grande numero di immigrati Italiani (due giorni fa sono stata fermata da una famiglia di immigrati italiani da Starbucks) ho a disposizione qualche buona scelta. Venerdì scorso abbiamo provato un nuovo posticino non troppo lontano dalla Strip: La Bella Napoli Pizzeria presso Town Square. L'ambiente è molto luminoso e rispecchia molto le originali pizzerie Italiane. I camerieri sono davvero preparati ed educati (alcuni parlano Italiano) e la proprietà è molto attenta al cliente. Dulcis in fundo il cibo: come aperitivo abbiamo gustato un ottimo piatto di tortellini (sembravano quelli di mia nonna) e in seguito abbiamo diviso una pizza seriamente impeccabile, grazie al loro forno a legna che arriva direttamente da Napoli. Tutto accompagnato da un paio di Negroni! Da provare!

As I already told you I am really really bad in everything is dessert and baking, the only way to let me produce "decent" desserts is to set the difficult on "kindergarten" and what is easier than the cookies? I have tested this recipe that doesn't need any fancy powder, rising time or anything complicate, just a fork and less than an hour of your time.

Come vi ho già detto sono davvero negata per quanto riguarda la pasticceria, l'unico modo per farmi produrre dolci "decenti" è impostare la difficoltà su "asilo nido" e quale dolce più semplice dei biscotti? Ho testato questa ricetta che non comporta strane polveri, lievitazione o altro, solo una forchetta e meno di un'ora del tuo tempo.

HOLA AMIGOS! Todo bien? My fantastic Espanol, that I have "studied" one year, ends here. I love Mexican food and since I moved to US I have become a guacamole addicted, while I am ok with the burrito from Chipotle Joseph is more sophisticate and sometimes I try to cook some Mexican/Tex Mex dish homemade. Yesterday I tested a really easy recipe with a really good result: the TACO CASSEROLE. A kind of pie with the ingredients you can find in a taco. My version is the basic one, at your wish you can add beans, rice, corn and what you like the most.

HOLA AMIGOS! Todo bien? E il mio fantastico Espanol che ho "studiato" per ben 1 anno si ferma qui. Adoro il cibo messicano e da quando sono qui in America sono diventata Guacamole dipendente, mentre io mi accontento dei Burrito di Chipotle, Joseph è un pochino più raffinato e certe volte mi cimento nella cucina Messica/Tex-Mex fatta in casa. Ieri ho testato una ricetta molto semplice ma dal risultato strepitoso: la TACO CASSEROLE. Una specie di "pasticcio" con gli ingedienti che si posso trovare nei taco. La mia versione è la più semplice in assoluto, a vostro piacimento potete aggiungere faglioli, riso, mais e cosa più vi ispira.

Obviously I didn't left all my good Italian habits in Italy, among these habits the GELATO can't miss: I explained to Joseph during summer Italians eat tons of gelato, at least once per day, he was incredulous. I couldn't resist to searching the best Ice Cream Shops and Gelaterie here in Las Vegas. FOREWORD: Ice Cream and Gelato are different: the first contains more fats and it is fluffier, Italian Gelato is more intense and it contains more milk in proportion. Ovviamente alcune buone abitudini Italiane non le ho dimenticate nel Bel Paese, tra queste il GELATO non può mancare: spiegare a Joseph che in estate noi Italiani mangiamo almeno un gelato al giorno è stata un'impresa, era incredulo. Non potevo non andare a caccia dei migliori "Ice Cream Shop" e "Gelateria" qui a Las Vegas. Boston: 40th year anniversary concert

Yesterday night Joseph and I have been invited at the only Boston Las Vegas date, in tour for celebrating their 40 year career, at the Downtown Las Vegas Event Center. The night was opened by a performance of Dennis DeYoung, then Boston took the stage performing their biggest hits like "More Than a Feeling", "Amanda" and "Feelin' Satisfied". The heterogeneity of the crowd was amazing: from 20 years old guys to more mature fans that were present to the firsts Boston performances.

Ieri sera io e Joseph siamo stati invitati all'unica tappa a Las Vegas dei Boston, in tour per celebrare i loro 40 anni di carriera, presso il Downtown Las Vegas Event Center. La serata è iniziata con una fantastica esibizione di Dennis DeYoung per poi lasciare il palco ai Boston che hanno eseguito i loto grandi successi tra cui "More Than a Feeling", "Amanda" e "Feelin' Satisfied". La cosa che mi colpito di più è stata l'eterogeneità dei fan presenti al concerto: da ragazzi di 20 anni ai più maturi che erano presenti ai primi concerti dei Boston.

UFC Lip Sync Challenge

One of the most important entertainment sport here in Las Vegas is the fighting and UFC always holds the most important events, in particular this week with the UFC International Week, started on July 5th and it will end on July 10th. During this busy week, yesterday night there was the unique Lip Sync Challenge featuring 4 UFC stars: UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, UFC light heavyweight Rashad Evans, UFC middleweight Uriah Hall and the Veteran Voice of the Octagon Bruce Buffer, the special judge of the evening was the UFC Octagon Girl Arianny Celeste. The ring of the challenge was the Lagasse's Stadium at The Palazzo where many fans came to see this unique fight. The challenge has seen a spectacular showdown between Stipe Miocic with Taylor Swift "Blank Space" and Uriah Hall with queen Beyoncè "All the Single Ladies", including the legendary choreography: the fans elected them co-champions. After the challenge the fighters have replied to the many questions of the fans and shown one more time the affinity and the gratitude that athletes here in America have towards their fans.

Uno dei grandi entertainment sport qui a Las Vegas è la lotta e UFC ne fa padrona, in particolare durante questa settimana: la UFC International Week, iniziata il 5 luglio e si concluderà il 10 luglio. Durate questa settimana piena di appuntamenti ieri si è tenuto la sfida di Lip Sync (letteralmente cantare in playback) tra 4 grandi star della UFC: il campione heavyweight Stipe Miocic, il light heavyweight Rashad Evans, il middleweight Uriah Hall e il veterano speaker Octagon Bruce Buffer, giudice d'onore la UFC Octagon Girl Arianny Celeste. Il ring è stato il Lagasse's Stadium, presso The Palazzo, dove molti fan si sono riuniti per questo unico scontro.
